I was getting pretty freaked out. Just the fact that Dad could tell me all this, like it was a shopping list, with zero emotion.

On he went:

‘It’s also possible that I’ve been caught by the police. If this is the case then I will have had to destroy my communications systems so that I can’t be tracked back to the safe house. The police and military are already mapping the movements of the entire population and they are on the look-out for any stashes of food or weapons.

The other possibility, Haley, is that I suspect I’ve become contaminated. So I’ll have to self-quarantine away from the safe house for a month. We don’t know what the quarantine period is for this virus yet, perhaps as long as a month. I have brought a tent and some rudimentary supplies.’
